Document checklist for your German tax return
A German tax return with income or family in India draws on papers from two countries. Answer six yes-or-no questions and get your own list: what each document is, where it comes from and why the return asks for it. No amounts, nothing to upload.
Your numbers stay in your browser. We count anonymous usage, never amounts. What you enter stays in this browser tab and is not added to the page link. How we handle data
About your year
Every question can be left open; the list only grows with a yes.
Your checklist
Answer yes to a question and the documents for it appear here.
How this works
Each yes adds the documents that the matching part of a German return generally draws on; a document needed for several answers appears once. The list is built in your browser from a fixed table, and nothing you answer leaves it.
The checklist names documents and where they come from. It doesn't work out any tax, and it doesn't say whether you have to file. Every reason links to the law or the official page it comes from.
Situations it doesn't cover include self-employment, Indian salary, crypto, and employee shares (ESOPs or RSUs).
